Bird Feeder Craft {Big Family Friday}

The gardens are now blooming around the house; birds are singing.  The grass is turning bright green.  We’ve been moving our projects outside to the picnic table by our tire swing tree.

Have you taken your learning outside as well?

I found this Backyard Bird Feeder project that I couldn’t wait to make with the kids. I think you’ll like it too!

  • {Mom} Cut a hole in both sides of the plastic bottle.  {*You can use any size bottle for this project}
  • {Kids} Insert wooden kitchen spoons for bird perches.
  • {Mom & Kids} Fill bottle with bird seed.
  • There are several options for hanging your bird feeder.  I couldn’t find my handy bundle of rope the day we made this craft.  I felt very crafty, creative (and country ;) ) by inserting the hook of a metal coat hangar to be custom support.

The children have done a lot of painting outside lately. We added another step to this easy project by letting each child paint their bird feeder. I thought this was a great opportunity to personalize their bird feeders.

The birds eat the seed when they perch on the kitchen spoons.  Seed pops out of the same holes that the spoons go through. :)

    • The holes that you poke the spoons through spill out bird seed. :) I must not have been very clear, but the original tutorial did a good job explaining.
