A Tour of Our Homeschool Room 2011-2012

~ OUR HOMESCHOOL ROOM ~

The above picture is of the whole crew doing school in the school room and at the school table.  I had to take a picture because it is not always this clean or poetic looking.  Some days the Kindergartener and Preschooler spread out at the kitchen table while the older boys work in the school room.  Then there are days when we trade the schoolroom table to a quilt outside under our shady tree.  Here, you can read about our daily homeschool schedule.  And THEN there are weeks {like this week} in which we load up what we need and hit the road for some more roadschooling {and Olive Garden, lots and lots of Olive Garden.}

Here’s a wall of lower shelves below…full of, um, yeah…I still have a book problem.  If this is year seven—I can’t imagine where I’ll be storing books by year-14 {or year-30 for that matter}.

Do you see the milk crates on top of the shelves?  These are my highly sophisticated work-box system.  You will not find work box organization charts here my friends.  We’ve got milk crates, with school work in them.  The kids pull out their box and do their work.  The end.

The 1st row of these shelves is part of my Joyce Meyer teaching CD collection.  That’s my other problem.  I love teaching CD’s.  I play those puppies all the time to keep my brains in my head and Jesus on the forefront of my mind.

And talking about work boxes, here’s Naomi’s newly cleaned out workbox.  This is what our early years homeschooling looks like.

This is one of our bible shelves—loads of Bibles, Christian books  and devotionals.

One of the many things I LOVE about having a lot of children is the fact that we get a lot of use out of the toys!  Zion was a Thomas-the-Train fanatic.  Now, Gabriel has a huge Thomas collection to take over.   When Gaby is done “doing his school” he has a world of play waiting for him everyday!

Another set of shelves, this set holds additional history books and two rows of younger kid readers.  You can read more here about how we make a frugal home full of learning.

Here are some of the low metal baskets we have on our large book cases.  Each basket hold a different item, glue, ribbon, stickers, scissors, crayons…you get the idea.  Above the metal baskets I have items that the 2 & 5-year-old can access anytime of day—simple coloring books, wooden puzzles, little crafts.

This desk has family history but no real purpose in our school room.  I’m personally at war now with furniture that holds no purpose.  For now I stack books that are coming up next in our reading.

More shelves and book fun!

The picture below is our paper basket and responsibility chart that hangs overhead. This part of the room isn’t that exciting yet…but I’ve got plans!

I could bore you with pictures of our schoolroom forever.  But I think I’ll stop for now and go link up with HOTM and the “NOT” Back to School Blog Hop, for Schoolroom week!

    Love all those book shelves filled! We only have room for one book shelf in our living room to house the books for the current year. The rest are downstairs in the play room/other living area. Still available for use, though!

    Great room! Thanks for sharing!

    Fabulous bookshelves! I love the metal baskets. I think it's so neat to have furniture,like a desk, that has some family history behind it. That is a beautiful stained glass element in the window–this reminds me of a beautiful library. Hope your homeschool year is blessed!

  5. Those are some serious shelves – and I love them! :-) Thanks for sharing!
